Substitute Policy 2008-2009

GVSU's College Of Education has developed a substitute policy:

• The policy states that student teachers/student interns (i.e. during second semester placements) may substitute in their own classroom only, for no more than five (5) times during the semester with remuneration with the prior consent of the university field coordinator, the cooperating teacher and the building principal.
• The student teacher/student intern must be registered as a substitute. If the student teacher/student intern is not comfortable s/he has the right of refusal.
• In the event of a teacher strike or work stoppage, student teachers/ student interns do not report for duty, do not substitute, and do not appear at the assigned building.
