A Sucker for a Good StoryPosted by: Shawn Bultsma |
So, I came across a great story shared by American School Counselor Association (ASCA)president, Brain Law and thought I needed to pass it along! I knew that this was the case when I spent ten minutes writing the following response as a comment to Brian's blog titled Through the Eyes of a Tree that was posted on the ASCA Scene (a free social network blog for school counselors):

Brian, One of the many things that impresses me about you is the way that you "earn" the right to tell your story about your work as a school counselor and leader in the profession. Your genuine interest in others (and we have all heard a number of your stories from you that start something like, "That sounds interesting, tell me about that.")provides you the opportunity to share your story about how you see your work as a school counselor and leader in the profession fiting with what you hear. That is unsolicited advocacy in action! And more impressively it seems to flow effortlessly from you.
Thank you for modeling a way of being that affirms the importance and dignity of the stories of others before you share your story! I am convinced that we would all be better off if our agenda focused on the story that others have to tell before we share our own. Thanks for giving me a head start on coming up with an idea for my New Years resolution! I may even start a little early. Be Well, Shawn
