Join the ASCA SCENE

Posted by: Shawn Bultsma

If you are a school counselor and not signed up for the ASCA SCENE, you are missing out!  This networking site is a professional meeting place for school counseling professionals to share and learn from each other. Get answers to your school counseling questions, share your lesson plans and best practices, become the best school counselor you can be.

This FREE resource is facilitated by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) is chock full of documents and files that could make your job as a school counselor much more effective not to mention time saving.

Why take the time to recreate what has already been created?  Documents are included in files that are alphabetized from Abuse to War/Deployment.  The most resources in the files section are found in the elementary, middle school and high school files.  Group counseling, bullying, college/post-secondary, and career development each contain over 20 files as well.
The ASCA SCENE also includes a variety of discussion forums that give you the opportunity to ask questions on topics that range from legal/ethical issues to job openings.  It also provides you a chance to share your expertise with others.

I have personally used and contributed to the files as well as discussions in the ASCA SCENE.  I am impressed that ASCA makes this resource available to ALL school counselors whether or not they have ASCA membership.  There are currently over 12,000 school counselors across the nation participating in this social network...don't miss out!

I agree that this is a terrific resource to not only help you keep up with the issues that practicing school counselors are facing, but this also serves as an opportunity to solicit feedback on an issue that as a school counselor you may be currently dealing with. Professional consultation at your fingertips! Give it a try. Sue Clay

Shawn, I'm glad you agree with me! I've used it over the past couple of years and at times find a great source! I highly encourage others to post their resources on this so the choices become greater!
